Tom Jones is a 60ft (18.3m) steel motor cruiser, built in 1972. Full details can be found at www.tomjonescruising.com and follow the link to the 'for sale' page.
For some reason the specifications part of this website is not showing the actual draught and beam of the boat in the specifications below - it is only showing the first digit.
The draught is 1.5m and the beam is 4.5m, the air draught is 3.3m to the top of the navigation lights, 3.7m to the top of the search light. We have passed through a bridge with an air draught marked at 5m with the radar arch up and there were a good few inches to spare.
She is a true sea boat and we have cruised her extensively around the west coast of England on the Irish Sea. We took her from Liverpool to Honfleur and then spent two years cruising the inland River Seine.
Last year, 2009, we took the boat from Honfleur along the English Channel and entered Belgium at Oostende. We then toured the inland system of Belgium and then into Holland.
Tom Jones is truely an all rounder.
The boat is stored out of the water at Heusden, Netherlands, for the winter. I returned in Sept '09, having antifouled the hull and winterised her.
She has been coded for commercial use by UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency - Category 2, up to 60 miles from safe haven, for 12 people. We used the boat for commercial charters for two years but haven't done so this year and as such the coding has expired. It wouldn't take much effort to have her re-coded.
She is eminently suitable for use as a private vessel and she would make an ideal Liveaboard or any commercial use such as a dive boat or commercial charters as we have done.
We have used the boat for charters on the River Seine for two years.
The boat has an insurance valuation of £120,000. I appreciate that this is a difficult economic period and boat sales are going to be difficult and this results in the heavily discounted price that the boat is offered at. If you are willing to make a serious offer - contact me.
She has two Gardner 6LYT engines with hydraulic gearboxes.
The boat has benefitted from a thorough refit over the past few years.
Entry to the boat is via the wheelhouse, sliding doors port and starboard, which houses all the navigational equipment necessary for a vessel of this size - radar, depth sounder, GPS, Digital Selective Calling (DSC) VHF radio, Robertson autopilot with rudder indicator and follow-up lever and 2 magnetic compasses and of course the wheel.
The wheelhouse is the communal area of the boat and it has 'L' shaped seating, it is very much like the kitchen at home - the place that everyone gathers.
The aft cabin is furnished in varnished teak and has a king size bed, two hanging wardrobes, occasional seating, small dressing table and stowage in various lockers. The lighting is switched at both the door and from the bed. There are also two reading lights on either side of the bed. The cabin has natural lighting with windows on each side and a hatch in the ceiling. The cabin measures 2.8m x 3.1m (not including the depth of the lockers
There is a second shower room off the galley with a hand basin.
The hot water on the boat is provided by either an electric immersion heater or heated by the engines when in use - via a calorifier. All water pipes have been renewed in plastic Hep2o pipes. The water pump is situated beneath the aft cabin floor.
The showers have full thermostatic control to ensure a pleasant water temperature.
The galley is fully fitted and equipped with a fridge, 2-burner Bosch ceramic hob, microwave and cupboards and drawers containing food, crockery, cutlery and other essentials.
The generator controls are accessed from the galley
The boat is all-electric and is powered by two 24v battery banks (4x6v each bank), she has shore power and a galvanic isolator and a 4 KvA, water cooled, diesel generator in a sound reducing box.
The boat has been virtually re-wired with all services terminating in Merlin Gerin circuit breaker boxes.
She has a HiTec 30A 24v battery charging system.
There is an inverter in the wheelhouse to enable the charging of mobile phones or supplying power to small electrical items
Going forward from the galley takes you to the main saloon.
There is fixed 'U' shaped seating in the saloon and a table together with a drinks cabinet and stowage in various lockers.
This is a generous size room with full standing headroom
Forward again leads to the forepeak cabin - a good size double berth with hanging wardrobe and dressing table

Air Draught to top of Navigation Lights - 3.3m. With the radar arch in place the air draught is less than 5m. The arch can be taken off or you could fit a hinge arrangement.
Tom Jones has two Gardner 6 LYT light duty commercial 250hp at 1600 rpm, 15.5 litres, in line six cylinder configuration - turbo aspirated, fitted new in September 1984
Twin disc marine gearboxes, MG 502, fitted new in September 1984
Propellers 31" x 30" pitch 0.6 B.A.R. on stainless steel shafts
The hard chine steel hull is semi-displacement with a box section keel, radius transom fitted with boarding ladder. Two bilge keels / rolling chocks are fitted. The under water section is fitted with cathodic protection.
The superstructure is made of steel
We fell in love with the inland waterways during our last 2 years of cruising the River Seine on Tom Jones. We are looking to purchase a smaller boat more suited to the canals of France. If you have such a boat you would like to use as a part exchange - just let me know. |

Design by H.W. De voogt, dim: 14,68 m x 4,05 m x 1,30 m, round bilge displacement hull (of white), steel hull, teak superstructure, teak decks, large aft deck, glass windows in aluminium frames, partial double glass, long keel, fuel capacity: total 1000 litres in two tanks, fresh water capacity: 1.350 litres (300 gallons), space for building in a blackwatertank, fly bridge, hydraulic wheel steering + joy stick.
Everything is in very good condition and the boat had a refit in 2007. The use of modern technicks and materials asured that the maintenenace of the boat now has become a lot easier. The folowing jobs were caried out during the refit:
Restoration of the teakdecks and replacing the sealant.
Hull underwater, removed old coatings and aplied a modern epoxyprimer and a antifouling system.
Hull above the water, removed old coatings and polyster fillers and aplied epoxyfiller and epoxycoating. Finished with a two part gloss finish.
Roof of the superstructure, removed old polyster cover and aplied an epoxysystem, epoxyfiller and epoxycoating. Finished with a two part gloss finish.
Teak superstructure, removed old varnishes, replaced some parts for new teak and aplied a transparent flexible polyurethane coating.
Interior, most parts of the interior were replaced by new. So you can practical say it is a new interior with a big kitchen and bathroom. All the wood in the interior is treated with a high gloss transparent two parts finish. There is placed a new boiler for centralheating and hotwater.
The engines are from 1968 but were in good condition and only had an extensive service.
The batteries and a new charger/inverter 2300 Watt/220 Volt were placed.
